I leave tomorrow morning for GenCon. So naturally the battery warning light in my car came on this morning as I was driving to work. What fun! So tonight, in addition to packing, fixing the trunk latch of the car (don't ask), visiting the parents for birthday pie for my mother, and making sure I have all of my notes and directions, I also need to stop by the auto shop and get a new battery. (I think this one is about five years old. I'm far from an auto genius, but I'm guessing after five years this is a dying battery.) Still, better to know today than to find out tomorrow in the middle of downtown Indianapolis, right?
For those of you who might be attending, I've pasted my schedule beneath the LJ cut. Please feel free to stop by and say hi. (Please also make sure to tell me who you are, especially if your LJ username doesn't necessarily match up to your real life name :-)

I'm one of the few people I know who often ends up getting more sleep at a convention than I do in day-to-day life. Thanks to a sick 3-year-old who's been up coughing for the past two nights, I suspect GenCon will follow that pattern. This will be good, as I'd like to get my brain back. But I feel bad about leaving my wife with a sick boy for four days. Hopefully the apple pie tonight will help him to start feeling better...

I'm so sorry about the illness in your house. Pie does, however, make everything better. :)
Mmmmm....Pie......
And I'm told he's feeling a little bit better this morning. Hopefully that trend continues...
May you play lots of games and roll 20's on your die.
Don't worry about the dice, I'm sure there's a vendor there somewhere who'll only be too happy to sell you premium dice. Maybe they'll have one made by goblins...
PS. One of these days, I'm going to have to have you sign one of the books I have. *grins*
Let's see here ... Author's Alley is me sitting around with books, trying to make eye contact with passers by. Then there's the reading, and I'm not entirely sure what the read & critique is on Thursday night (presumably we read and critique stuff, but I don't want to make any assumptions). Everything else is panels.
I hope you can make it. And of course, I'm happy to sign just about anything people put in front of me :-)
The SU works downtown Indy. I work on the NE side.
I will not be at GenCon. I'll be driving 3 hours north to a fencing event Friday and then going to fencing practice Sat.
Good luck at the match on Friday!
I hope your son gets better quickly.
Then of course, my luck would be I get to go, and that'd be the year the cool people (like yourself) I'd love to meet in person wouldn't make it.
Good luck with your car and keep safe.
I'm hoping I can get into some of the writing workshops/seminars. I wasn't able to sign up for anything beforehand, but according to the schedule, a lot of events aren't at full capacity yet. I've never been to a con before where I had to sign up for things beforehand (with the exception of writing critique groups run by authors).
Oh, wait -- I'm up against Wil Wheaton? Well, it was nice to be nominated, at any rate :-)
