Good and Bad

The Good Excellent: In the first 24 hours, the not-a-raffle has already raised over $400 for rape crisis centers, more than triple what we raised using an auction model. My thanks to everyone for their generosity, and for spreading the word.

The Bad: My cat Flop has a mass on his lip that needs to be surgically removed.  The vet isn’t too worried … but they’re worried enough to operate.  Flop’s the one who used to snuggle up with my daughter every night before bed.  I’m pretty sure he’ll be okay, but it’s reminding me that all three cats are 13 years old.  They’re not young beasts anymore.

The Bizarre: Found a white hair.  On my arm.  Do not want.  Not because getting older bothers me, but because it’s really funky-looking.

The good excellent for the not-a-raffle is great to hear, but makes my chances of winning super low. Oh, well. You know I will buy a copy anyway and track you down to get it signed. :)

25 entries so far. Still much better odds than your average lottery.

But yes, even if you don't win, I suspect we'll bump into each other at some point this year :-)

...your first white hair? I got my first when I was 24. I never pluck them, and any that come out I keep. (What do you mean, "That's weird?" White hairs are cool!)

OK, even though I don't know who you are? and I'll be 60 in May and have no interest in dating anyway? - I am now officially never dating you.

[sad] But I was gonna show you my collection...

LOL - aw, isn't that sweet? But really - I have quite a collection of my own. I keep it on my head. Mostly.

"I keep it on my head."

Heck, I don't even seem to be able to do that!
Apr. 3rd, 2010 03:22 pm (UTC)
Not my first. They've been popping up in the beard for a few years now. But this was the first one to show up on my arm.

1. Huzzah! Must keep spreading the word!

2. Prayers and good energy for Flop.

3. I have one silver eyebrow hair. One. My hair has been noticeably graying since I was 26, so I've had lots of time to adjust, but 0_o, freak eyebrow hair.

I tell everyone I am going blonde one hair at a time. That explains a lot... :-) (I started out with dark brown hair, so those silver ones show up pretty well.)If it makes you feel any better, I have 1 white eyelash. Urg.

Planning on entering today, as soon as I get a moment. Passed the word on FB yesterday.

Thank you! And there's no rush. I'm not drawing a winner until the 16th.

Cool--looks like a busy weekend between writing and outside work.

Hope the kitty is okay. I have five, and the oldest ones are all within about a year of each other (8-9). Been there before and eventually it gets very hard.

1. Yay!
2. Fingers crossed for Flop.
3. Since when do you mind weird? ;)
Apr. 3rd, 2010 03:54 pm (UTC)
3. You have a point there...

Get used to the occasional funky looking white/grey hair. It ain't bad, but just a reminder that time goes in one direction.
Apr. 3rd, 2010 03:26 pm (UTC)
Could have been worse, you could have woken up to find a white hare in your nose ;)
Apr. 3rd, 2010 03:54 pm (UTC)
That's tomorrow :-)

Actually, I woke up to find that the Cheerios box actually contained Life cereal, which was odd ... until the 5-year-old started giggling. This was his April Fool's joke on Daddy, and I just hadn't discovered it until today.

Hehe, smart lad :)
Apr. 3rd, 2010 06:52 pm (UTC)
Hehe...that's a pretty good joke. :)

cats often live to their late teens the way people often live into their late 80s. I'm sure Flop will be fine.

As for the white hair, just pluck it.
Apr. 3rd, 2010 05:19 pm (UTC)
No, it's bad luck!

White hairs are a sign of maturity and wisdom. That's my doctrine.

(Besides, then I don't have to demonstrate maturity and wisdom in other ways. There are benefits.)

Ooh. I like this approach!

You have my good thoughts - it's hard to see our kitties hurt.

You think finding it on your arm is odd. Wait till the first time you find one in an *ahem* a more private place. Weird knows no bounds. :)

Embrace your white arm-hair! It is a sign that you are one of the Chosen!

re The Bizarre
My sympathies.

I've been going white since I was 6, but in the last few years (I'm 42 now) it's crept down to my face. The worst are my eyebrows, the white ones grow straight out instead of lying down. It's like having feelers... the first time I noticed it (how often do we look at ourselves in profile?) I had one about an inch long.

There's a reason I've taken to using my beard trimmer on my eyebrows.

You think one white hair is funky? Wait until you're salt and pepper! lol ;D
