Dragon Winners

Snoopy

Most of my energy is currently going into Codex Born (due to my editor on March 1), and a few other projects. So instead of a blog post today, I’m going to pick some winners to receive autographed copies of Marie Brennan’s A Natural History of Dragons [Amazon | B&N | Mysterious Galaxy].

There were well over a hundred entries, providing entertaining and occasionally disturbing blurbs for Mary’s Angels. But the fickle hand of Random.org has spoken, and has smiled upon the following three people:

I’ve notified the winners by email, so if you’re one of these three people and you haven’t heard from me, leave a comment and let me know how best to get in touch.

For the rest of you, go get the book and read it anyway, because it’s good.

As for me, I’ve got to get back to that scene where Darth Vader cuts off Isaac Vainio’s hand, and then Smudge crawls up under Vader’s mask. Good times…

It seems appropriate to win this book on Charles Darwin's birthday. Happy Darwin Day!

I follow your blog pretty faithfully, and if you've covered this before feel free to simply link me to your previous post, but I don't recall seeing anything about my question, which is: How do you get permission to use licensed characters like Darth Vader in your Libriomancer series?

The Darth Vader line was a joke. Possibly a bad one, since that didn't appear to come across.

It's one thing for Isaac to make in-universe references to Star Wars, but if I were to actually try to use those characters as a part of the story, I suspect Lucas/Disney would be on me so fast there'd be nothing left but a smear.

RANDOM! You mean you didn't pick the most brilliant entry? Yeesh. Then why did I work so hard to make mine good?

Assuming that Mr. Hines is not trolling us with the Darth Vader bit...

...Isaac, didn't anybody ever tell you why it's a bad idea to get into fights with evil overlords from outer space? (Then again, it's Isaac. He totally knows why it's a bad idea. And there's being told, and then there's actually listening.)

I'm pretty sure Mr. Hines is trolling about that bit.

Probably...

"Then again, it's Isaac. He totally knows why it's a bad idea. And there's being told, and then there's actually listening."

You know him well :-)

Off-topic...
I think you might find this interesting. It's an article by a guy who decided to cosplay "Slave Leo", with a lot of open and honest discussion about his reasons for doing so and the emotional process he went thru. And pictures, including "the classic butt-and-boobs shot" (his words)!
