Libriomancer Audio Book Redux

Libriomancer

When Libriomancer came out as an audio book, I started receiving messages explaining that while people enjoyed the story (most of them, at least), the narration left something to be desired. The same criticism popped up in reviews on Amazon and the Audible.com site.

I’m very happy to say that Audible took the complaints seriously, and decided to completely re-record the book. The audio book was pulled until they could get the new recording finished.

As of last night, the audio version of Libriomancer is once again available for sale at Amazon and Audible.com. My thanks to Audible for taking the time to try to make this right. I’ve not yet heard the new version, but I’m told the narration by David de Vries is a significant improvement.

(While I’m thinking about it, if you’re an Audible.com author, check out Audible Author Services. Basically, they pay the author an extra $1 per sale, presumably on the hope that we authors will do some extra promotion. I’m not aware of any downside here.)

And that’s all I’ve got for now. I have one week to turn in the final revision of Codex Born, and a nonfiction deadline snuck up on me earlier this week, so it’s frazzled-Jim time again here in Michigan.Have a great weekend, all!

I'm glad they were responsive and took the trouble to fix this.

And now, as my critique partner and I like to say to each other, WBW! (Write, bitch, write.)

It's unfortunate that it doesn't appear to be available in the UK.

No argument here. The print edition is coming out in the UK in June. Hopefully they'll be able to wrangle something in audio as well...

Very cool!
Good luck with the current crunch.

Whoa. Sucks to be the original narrator though.

At the same time, I do a lot of my fiction "reading" through audiobooks these days and a good narrator can put your right into the story no matter what age or gender the voice type seems to be.

Wow. I'm impressed. There's several audiobooks out there I wish the companies in charge could have done that with. If I never hear another bad fake accent again, it'll be too soon.

I'll be picking that one up as soon as I'm done with the second Bujold Challion book and the 10th anniversary American Gods release.

Libriomancer has been on my wish list at Audible, but I was hesitating because of the bad reviews of the narrator. I'm pleased to hear it's been re-recorded!

However, may I suggest you contact Audible and ask that they do something to make it clear that there's a new version? Although some of the old reviews mention the previous narrator's name, the situation isn't clear and the reviews might put off someone who doesn't glom on that there's a newer version. (It doesn't help that reviews aren't displayed in date order, so it won't necessarily be clear to someone skimming them that a new version was recorded and released.)

Thanks, Terie! I'm told they're working on updating or removing the reviews that refer to the old narration. Hopefully that will take care of any potential confusion.

Good luck with the revisions! May the frazzlement be minimal. I have been recommending Libriomancer to many of my friends, and will continue to do so. (One of them says that she finished it in one sitting the day I lent it to her. And then read it again.)

Your enthusiastic fan,
Neva

Thanks so much!

The frazzlement has been pretty nonstop for a while now, but the end is in sight!!!
