Spider Goddess Update

I tend to get a bit obsessed with new projects sometimes. On the bright side, I’ve decided to go ahead and do a print edition of Rise of the Spider Goddess, to go along with the ebook. Yay! I’ve also been looking into cover art options, finishing up the annotations, and thinking about the best way to publish and promote this sucker.

This is what I think the text of the print version will look like:

Sample Page

I’ve also been messing around with cover font possibilities:

Font Ideas

None of this is final yet. (And that particular color combination is giving me a weird Law & Order vibe…) But I’m having a great deal of fun.

It will probably be at least December before this is available, but I’ll keep y’all updated :-)

You really need a creepy Gothic font for the title -- the cheesiest, most over-the-top one you can lay hands on.

And you need some weird 80's style art where the person is either dead center in the cover holding a sword and wearing a cloak or is a tiny person at the base of a huge spider throne.

Spam-trapped for a link to a bad cover site (and probably not enough surrounding commentary.)

Thank you! A hard copy book would be tons of fun to pass around the family!

It would be an entertaining thing to have on the ego shelf at my house, too :-)

In a strange coincidence, I was just thinking of you a couple of minutes ago. (Not in a creepy way, I swear! I'm about half way through Libriomancer--and really enjoying it--and I thought, "We haven't heard from Jim in a little while." And then here you were. :) Granted this is probably me more than you, since I haven't been on LJ much this week and I may have missed your posts. )

It sounds as if you're having lots of fun playing with the look for Rise of the Spider Goddess. :)

Maybe it's the font on your name that's giving you the L&O vibe. If it was more over the toppy, it would seem less dangerous and serious. .

If you'd like, I have some lovely Comicraft display fonts I could loan you. :)

Oh, I figured I'd just do the whole interior in Comic Sans :-)

Doing the interior in Comic Sans font would be fantastically hilarious! XD Or maybe using slasher/horror font for the scary (read: clunkiest prose) sections would work...it's up to you, of course! :) I think it'll look great and be hilarious, whatever you choose to do. We have faith in you. Don't let the awkward prose overcome you...stay strong, Jim! :)

This looks like the kind of masterpiece that might even surpass the exquisite prose of Shadow War of the Night Dragons. Looking forward to seeing it in print!

I've actually saved a copy of the cover art from Shadow War as a reference :-)

*cackles*

I want to go through my first novel like this... except I think I might be skeered into the night...

It's been both amusing and disturbing to work through this thing...
