Cool Stuff Friday

Friday means there’s one day left until we go to see Star Wars. And yes, I know it’s marketing and hype and a way for Disney to earn a gazillion dollars. But it’s also a huge number of people–fans–coming together to geek out and be passionate about something together. It reminds me a bit of the lead-up to the release of the later Harry Potter books, and the feeling of connection they created when so many people were looking forward to the same thing. So, yeah. One day left for me.

I won't get to see it until after Christmas, but I am excited :-)

That orange cat just seemed to become more and more convinced that there had to be something edible on that tree somewhere the more times he proved himself wrong via candy canes, ornaments, and not-so-successful quests for imaginary catnip balls at the top of the tree.

As for the Hungarian Star Wars tie-in merchandise, I suppose you could sort of rationalize the Star Wars sausages and chicken slices--or whatever they were--as something they might serve in the stormtroopers' cafeteria on the Death Star. (The foie gras, of course, would be reserved for Darth Vader and his top officers.) But somehow I can't really picture anyone in the Imperial forces chowing down on Star Wars canned corn. It doesn't seem like it would be a big hit with the more Han Solo-ish rebels, either. Although I suppose Luke's Uncle What's-his-name and Aunt Beru might have enjoyed the chance to eat some processed vegetables that they hadn't laboriously grown themselves...
