I Haz a Pumpkin!

Three carved, one to go. More pictures in a day or two, hopefully. Don't know if I'm going to get #4 done tonight. Between two kids who are too young to use the knives and a wife with arthritis, I end up carving everything, and my hands are starting to cramp up.

I like the way Snoopy turned out, though the paper in his typewriter is barely holding on to the rest of the pumpkin. Don't know if he's going to make it to Halloween or not.

(And I know there are pumpkin carving tools my daughter could probably use that aren't sharp, but we didn't get out to buy anything this year.)

ETA: Got #4 finished after all. Woo hoo!

Snoopy? *shakes head* SNOOPY?!?!

Jeez, I'm lucky if I get anything but the triangle eyes and nose, and a semi-interesting mouth carved into my pumpkin! Even then I find square teeth challenging! LMAO!

I always get a little carried away :-) Here's the one I did the year my son was born:

I love the reverse-video effect yours have, but have never gotten up the nerve to try it myself.
The kidlet drew the face and I carved it this year - not the normal triangular eyes and block-toothed mouth - slanty eyes with iris and a mouth with fangs in a big grin.

Unfortunately, I lost my camera a couple of months ago and cannot afford to replace it right now. (I did not carve the icon - I swiped it)

Most of the ones I do involve Photoshopping a pattern, printing it out, and then copying it onto the pumpkin with a thumbtack. It's the only way I can do anything remotely competent.

The "Boo" pumpkin up above was 100% the daughter's design. I just do the manual labor :-)

It's the Great Snoopy, Charlie Brown!

I thought about trying to do Woodstock as well, but then my sanity returned ;-)

That Snoopy pumpkin is amazing!

Thanks, Nick! It's basically just blowing up the image from the icon, then transferring it with thumbtacks.

Tonight we get to find out whether kids these days still know who Snoopy is! Darn youngsters with their Spongebob and South Park cartoons...

Snoopy is amazing! I'm very impressed.

That's some impressive carving skills right there.

I can see why your hands might be cramping up. Very nice pumpkins from all of you. I like seeing the actual flame in the Boo pumpkins mouth, it's a nice touch. This was our first year with the kids cutting their own, using the little saws from the kits. One little knick, too small for a band aid even.

The more I think about it, the more I like the "Boo" one. My daughter designed it, and I like that she got creative and went beyond "A jack-o-lantern must be a face or picture." Clearly she's destined to be a writer :-)

So how did the kids do with theirs? And congrats on the mostly injury-free carving!

Good gracious alive. What can't you do, Jim? Unbelievable. :)

I missed "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" this year because of a critique meeting. I am bummed!

Thanks, but I'm still very much the amateur. Check out this guy's gallery.

Sympathies on missing the Great Pumpkin. We've got it on video, but never sat down to watch it here, either. It's a sad thing all around.

Wow, those are great! We're in the "triangle eyes, triangle nose, and weak mouth are usually too hard for us" camp, lol. And yay for Snoopy, but I have to say that the Batman one is the one that got the most "Wow, that's awesome!" exclamations from me. :)

At first, my son wanted a Spiderman pumpkin. I'm relieved he let me talk him into Batman, because Spiderman would have been a bit much this year. The eyes would be easy, but the web lines? It can be done, but I don't know if I was up for it.

Very nice.

You've inspired me to carve.

Snoopy is the source of all inspiration.

Your main site is down
Did you know that you main site is down? I tried to access it to look up info on Stepsister Scheme and it gave me an internal server error. I think that means there is something wrong with your site, not my browser, but I'm not the most proficient at web stuff.

Re: Your main site is down
www.jimchines.com isn't working for some reason. The main site is up; you just have to go to http://www.sff.net/people/jchines/

Thanks for letting me know. I'll nudge some folks to see why www.jimchines.com isn't working right.

I love the Snoopy pumpkin, Andrew says you should have done Snoopy and the Red Baron.
I told him not everyone has a dremmel and that you had to carve four pumpkins were he is doing one.

Awesome pumpkins all round. I only carved on this year, the one my Mom gave me from their garden. Normally I would travel back to their place to help with the mass pumpkin carving (smallest number carved over the past 6 years has been 7 pumpkins), but with William being just 6 weeks old I opted to stay home this year.

Happy Hallowe'en!
