1. My friend Steven Piziks (spiziks) is doing a book giveaway. All you have to do is comment on something dangerous you used to do as a child, something that wasn't considered a problem back then. (For me, it would be riding in the back of the pickup.) Check it out.

2. For anyone thinking about coming to Kazoo Books this afternoon for my event, I've just talked to Gloria at the bookstore. They're getting hammered pretty hard by snow, and suggested we do a virtual discussion. So I'll be there, but I'll be small and two-dimensional. I've done a little bit with web conferencing, but never for an actual event, and I haven't played around with Skype before. This should be fun! (I'll try to swing by the bookstore later to actually sign books ... my little laptop can't do that piece, unfortunately.)

Groovy. I need to go post a comment myself, actually. I'm just trying to remember what other stupid things I did as a kid...

And this is why the sane people live in California, which may be fictional and have occasional floods of tarantulas, but doesn't cancel events with snow cones from the sky.

You have a point. On the other hand, nobody worries about Michigan breaking apart and sliding into the Great Lakes...

Technically speaking, if you look at the construction of the tectonic plates, it's much more likely that we'll just become an island, while Nevada, Arizona, and possibly Utah will become a lovely new inland sea.

I, for one, welcome our oceanic masters.

Go check out where I rode. ;)

My cousins used to ride in my grandpa's tractor scoop.

::Grin:: I was going to enter, but I don't think I have anything to match up to what's already been posted.

Small indeed. It's strange how many random cross-connections you find online.

Kazoo virtual meet
Went well. Except for Skype dumping the HP laptop a few times. The first was when Jim held up the cover art sketch for Mermaid. He held it up and the screen went blue and the computer rebooted. And that's just the sketch. I can't wait to see the color version. I'll post a more thorough writeup of the event on Rockblog, but in any case it was fun and informative and nobody had to slide off any roads.

I am just glad that Jim was able to stay warm. We wouldn't want to give that nipple a workout. He might shoot the BB right off it.

Re: Kazoo virtual meet
The finished cover is going to require a special Windows patch before you can view it on your computer!

Sadly, I didn't get to keep the BB. (Though I considered grabbing a few of the BB stickers on my way out of the office :-)

I used to think nothing about riding in the back of a pickup. It was less scary than sleeping on the top bunk, when you had a tendency to fall out of bed in your sleep.
