Wednesday Updatezzz…

Last night did not go quite as planned, in that I didn’t plan to bring my wife to the emergency room at 11:30, or to stay there waiting for doctors and lab results until 5:30 in the morning.  She’s fine (aside from bruises after five attempts to draw blood) — this was a scare that thankfully started to pass after the third hour of sitting and waiting in the E.R.  But neither one of us are what I’d call fully functional this morning.

So today we do random updates, ’cause it’s what my brain can handle.

Snow Queen is on schedule.  I’m still planning to have the first draft finished by the end of the month.  And I had a happy-dance moment last night where more pieces of the ending fell into place.  I love it when that happens!

Conventions — I’ll be at ConFusion later this month (1/22 - 1/24), doing what looks like seven panels and an autographing session all on Saturday.  (Including a fairy tale panel with Cat Valente and Peter Beagle — eep!)  I’ve also committed to doing Millennicon in March.

Diana Pharaoh Francis is planning to kill me, and it’s AWESOME!  Click over and read the excerpt from her work in progress, Crimson Wind.

And … um … yeah.  That’s what I’ve got.  Sleep now?

Whew that your wife is fine.

Yay for random! I look forward to getting to another ConFusion ... someday.

Aiee. I certainly hope she's better this morning. Both of you get some sleep, and I'll see you at 'Fusion.

My best wishes for your wife.

So glad it was nothing serious!! And I hope you both manage to catch up on your sleep soon.

I am so sorry. I'm glad that everything is okay.

Oh, ack. That sounds like an awful night. I'm so glad everything turned out okay.

On a totall unrelated note, I've just started reading The Mermaid's Madness, and I'm really loving it so far, even more than The Stepsister Scheme!

Thanks, and ... well, thanks! :-)

Jim, hope everything's okay.

You're going to be around for Millenicon? Man, I have to check my schedule to see if I don't have anything else going on that weekend.

As for the drawing blood part, yeah, I hate needles with a passion for just that reason. I had that happen to me when a nurse came out to draw blood for a life insurance application. I gave her my right arm -I'm left handed- and looked away. A prick and a bit of sharp intense pain later, she said "I think I missed the vein. Does this feel okay?" I looked back to find her wiggling the needle all over the place (360 degrees in a circle counts as all over the place) and a bruise already starting to form on the opposite side of my arm.

Let me know if you'll be there.

Yep, five sticks, done by three different people. Both arms, both hands. I thought at first that she was dehydrated or it was a result of the trouble that had brought us in to begin with, but after getting normal test results and such, I don't know what the problem was.

I've found a good lab around here to do my diabetes blood draws, but I used to hate 'em with a passion for the same reason. When it goes well, that's one thing, but when they miss and start spelunking in there ... ::Shudder::

Well, one event that I typically go to is being held the week before Millenicon, so that's one thing I don't have to worry about. As for any other events, I'll have to see; our oldest is in an instructional basketball league, and I don't know when they're going to have the games yet.

On Pennsylvania, just north of Meijer, in the little shopping center with Pet Supplies Plus. They've never needed more than one poke on me, and they've even done a nice job drawing blood from the 4-year-old.

Oh man, what a night. I hope it all goes away and she keeps feeling better.

Any plans for Baycon? That's the only one I can attend, and I know I miss a lot.
Jan. 13th, 2010 08:08 pm (UTC)
I'm afraid Baycon's currently a bit out of my range. (Budget and other issues keep me to conventions within driving range of Michigan. I'm hoping and planning to change this sometday...)

Morpheus, paging Morpheus.

I'm glad your wife is okay :)
Jan. 13th, 2010 10:33 pm (UTC)
Glad she's okay.
Jan. 13th, 2010 11:16 pm (UTC)
Oh man! I hope you both had a better rest of the day.
Jan. 14th, 2010 12:38 am (UTC)
LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!! Oh wait... um, hopefully it's a quick death? ;)
Jan. 14th, 2010 12:53 am (UTC)
Somehow I doubt it, but I appreciate the sentiment :-)

I'm glad she is okay! Sparrow or Ingham? Last blood draw I had at Sparrow sucked, but med students were responsible.

Ingham -- Greenlawn.

Mom, rest her soul, always had that problem. They always had trouble finding her veins, whenever she needed to have blood drawn. At least the scare is past. She's all right, then? And full speed ahead!
Jan. 14th, 2010 02:48 pm (UTC)
She's okay. Even made it into work yesterday, proving once again she's tougher than I am :-) She'll have a follow-up with her doctor, but she's fine, aside from being a bit sleepy for some reason...
Jan. 14th, 2010 02:51 pm (UTC)
After a long stint in the ER like that (not to mention the stress from everything, including all the faield attempts to draw blood before they finally succeeded), I'd be pretty tired, too.
Jan. 15th, 2010 01:51 am (UTC)
Oh no. I hope she's ok.
Jan. 15th, 2010 01:57 am (UTC)
She's all right today, thanks. My son is now throwing up, but that's another matter. Sigh...
Jan. 15th, 2010 02:19 am (UTC)
It's always something... I hope he feels better soon too.
