Cover Art: Rise of the Spider Goddess

I signed off on the final art for Rise of the Spider Goddess earlier this morning. All that’s left now is to finalize the text layout.

Patrick McEvoy delivered exactly what I was hoping for with the artwork. Given that this was a novel written — very badly — in 1995, based on the aftermath of a D&D adventure, I wanted a cover that blended D&D and WTF. I went for the same D&D-style feel with the font.

I’m quite pleased! What do you think?

If I’ve done this correctly, clicking on the cover will take you to the full jacket, front and back.

Feedback is welcome, as always. (And if you’re in the mood to pre-order, those links are here. I’ll add more pre-order links as they go live.)

Rise of the Spider Goddess will come out in print and electronic editions on December 2.

Wow. I love how you even worked a fragment into the back blurb. Your editor must have been suppressing reflexive hives for that.

Any word on how Rothfuss is taking the title?

Well, he has an ARC of the book, and so far he hasn't sent his minions after me :-)

you got the "WTF" down.

I'm half-way through the review copy. So far so good, but a question. In the final book, will the authorial added-later snark appear in a different font?

The snark should be in a different color, indented, with a left border line separating it from the novel text. Is that not coming through correctly on your e-reader?

I can look at adjusting the font, too. That shouldn't be too difficult of a style modification.

no, on the copy I have it's all body text with no other indications.

Crud. I apologize.

What reader are you using, please?

I'll have to check tonight - it's a freebie I'm running on a Motorola tablet.

I'm running FBReader (http://fbreader.org/) on an Android tablet. I suspect the problem is my el-cheapo e-reader.

The hair. Oh, the hair!

And you can tell that the dark-haired figure is a girl because her shirt collar is open, not buttoned up like the elf-guy, EVEN THOUGH there is no blatant T&A, for which, thank you.

I cannot help but notice the magical book on the cover.
Quite a theme going there, isn't it?

The lack of contortion or ridiculous T&A was one of the rules I set out when I first started talking to the artist :-)
