She was having so much fun playing with the neighbor dog :-)

Action dog is perfect! And I love black and white bird.

Thanks! The colors were a bit off on that one, but I loved how it turned out in B&W!

I've managed to salvage a number of less-than-spectacular photos by turning them black and white. (Including one where my camera settings had gotten *completely* screwed up; the whole thing was horrifically yellow and blown out.) It doesn't work for everything, but sometimes it's perfect! And that shot is my favorite of this set, because of the angle of the light.

And this reminds me, I need to go browse through your new photo gallery on the website! :-)

Enjoy! I hope to have some new stuff up there soon, too, once I'm done tagging all of my photos from last year's trip.

Im not sure what you are using for your BW conversion but Nik Silver Efex (and the whole Nik Suite) is free from Google now.

Running dog is great! I also loved the 2nd bird. (Is that a red-breasted grosbeak?)

Numbers 2 & 3 are both finches. The redhead is the male.

Cool! I don't think I have those kind here in upstate NY.
May. 17th, 2016 02:04 am (UTC)
Yup. Those are House Finches, which are west-coast birds. They were sold illegally in NY pet stores as "Hollywood Finches". Shop owners then released the birds into the wild to avoid prosecution, and those east-coast birds have bred and spread east. They now live in every state but Alaska. :-( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_finch

We love our finches. :) Such beautiful birds - especially if you see one in a ray of morning sunshine. :)

Have you ever seen one eat, though? Cookie Monster, I kid you not! They're looking around, munching away, and you can see this fine spray of seeds coming out of their beaks... *shakes head*

The bird feeder is less than a meter away from the window, so we get front row seats. :)

And you know, your photography is really getting fabulous. Nice to know you have a back-up career, just in case :-)

awesome pics!

I really like the first one: the dark background really make the specular highlights stand out.

Shooting running dogs is fun. When I was in Omaha last month, we took my friend's Blue Tick Hound to the dog park and I was shooting it with my pocket Lumix and got some shots with multiple paws off the ground.

Yesterday I got to shoot a baby owl! Our school photographer spotted an owl nest on campus(!) and she showed me where it was yesterday and I got some shots, but haven't looked at them yet.

I REALLY need a longer telephoto! It kinda sucks having 100mm being the longest that I have.

I was hoping to get at least one shot of Zoey with all four paws in the air, but the closest I came was a couple of pics with 3/4.

Also, I have baby owl envy! That sounds sweet!

I don't remember if you're also looking at my blog, but I just posted three photos, including one owl shot. I took my somewhat iffy 28-300 to work/school today, but it was rainy so I didn't have an opportunity to try for a better shot.

My blog-reading is erratic and iffy at best.

The owl looks like it's still got some of its baby fluff :-)

Where were the monkey shots taken?
May. 18th, 2016 02:45 pm (UTC)
The monkeys were at the Omaha Zoo, a place that I highly recommend. They have amazing habitats for their critters, lots of photo ops!

Wow. =)
