The Happy Thoughts Post

Just got back from voting. I am officially declaring this the Happy Thoughts Post. Please post pictures, links, etc. of a non-political nature that make you laugh or smile. Like…

The San Francisco Zoo will be live-streaming its Red Pandas on the Firefox Facebook page today from 10-11 a.m. Pacific Time.

Or Brigadier Sir Nils Olav, the king penguin at at Edinburgh Zoo who “is an honorary member of the King of Norway’s Guard and gets to inspect the soldiers when they visit the Scottish capital.”

Saluting the penguin

So post your link(s) and share the happy. If anything gets caught in the spam filter, just ping me in a separate comment and I’ll get it freed up.

The Hermitage, one of world's largest museums, keeps a staff of cats on the payroll. Their retirement plan includes residence in the Cat Museum in Vsevolozhsk. Last weekend one of the most beloved retirees, seven year old Fedor, went missing to general worry and consternation, but was discovered keeping guard on a garbage can containing an abandoned newborn puppy.

The puppy received veterinary help and is being temporarily fostered by Fedor and the other retired cats while awaiting adoption.

That is a truly awesome story. I've been to the Hermitage, though it was 40 years ago. I can't say that I remember the cats.

You could not have noticed them. They never ascend from the basements after the great Rising of 1960s which was firmly suppressed by the first Piotrovsky.

Their cultural descent is from Basil (brought from Holland by Peter the Great) and the famous hunting cats of Kazan imported by Elizabeth I, however, none of the original dynasty survived the Blockade during WWII. Currently there are 70 cats on the staff, and a full-time care-taker.

Cat Celebration at the Hermitage is held at the end of May.

Mme_n_b, that was a wonderful story about Fedor the cat. The history of the Hermitage cats' origins is also very interesting. I love cats, so reading this really made my day. :-)

The aspect ratios aren't quite right, but that's all that I have time for this morning.

You're welcome! The gorilla was at the Omaha Zoo in April, it was weird watching it sit there and drool. The dog is a friends, he was visiting and we went to White Sands. I think a small lizard ran in to the plants and he was waiting for it to come out so he could chase it some more.

This never fails to make me laugh. Benedict Cumberbatch on the Graham Norton show, showing that he can't say the word penguin.

The story on the lonely snail finding love is so cute. :-) I didn't know such rare snails existed until I read this article. Thanks for sharing this, jessie_c.

World's smallest volcano, 43 feet tall, near Puebla. Mexico. It's a big tourist attraction.
