ConFusion last weekend was amazing and wonderful and energizing and inspiring, as always.

Sadly, it was also ConTagious. I don’t think I caught the full-blown flu like some folks did, but I definitely caught some sort of con-crud. So this week has been a little less productive than I’d hoped. Apologies if I owe you emails or responses and haven’t gotten to them yet. I’m currently prioritizing a couple of deadlines and trying to catch a little extra rest.

Got to see and hang out with some great people, but as always, there wasn’t time to see and catch up with everyone I’d hoped to spend time with.

Naturally, I spent some of the con running around taking pictures. I’ve posted those over on Facebook. I think that should be a public album that anyone can see.

And that’s about it for now. Stay healthy, my friends!

Thank you!

I managed to get crud this winter without going anywhere near a convention, so at least you had the convention to enjoy first!!

Hadn't noticed you were on Facebook, silly me.

I am everywhere! (Which now has me wondering if my old MySpace page still exists...)

Hope you beat the crud quickly!

I'm not sure if I got it at ConFusion, since it didn't hit me until Wednesday afternoon, but it's full-blown crud now.

I never got the chance to tell you at the con how much I enjoyed "Imprinted".

Thanks so much, Mark. And I hope you feel better soon.

Did you have a good time at the con?

I had a wonderful time at the con, and thanks for asking. Aside from technical difficulties that delayed the Steven Universe sing-a-long from Friday to Saturday, the music programming (that's my area) ran very well. And we had some excellent open music circles, complete with a few folks who had never attended one before. :)

I was bummed to miss the SU singalong. Not that anyone wants to hear me sing, but it sounded like a lot of fun.

Follow up: I just tested positive for flu. If you haven't been tested yet, it's probably a good idea. I'm going to spend the next few days following the doctor's orders, which are to take Tamiflu and get lots of rest and fluids.

I know at least one other person who came back with the flu. Ugh. Hope you kick this thing quickly!

Hi Jim,

On my fourth day of Tamiflu and antibiotics, and getting a little better each day. But that's not why I'm writing again. I remembered something I meant to talk to you about at the con, but never had the chance.

During your interview with Nisi Shawl, you talked about the tension between science fiction and religion. I think you'd be interested in Robert J. Sawyer's Calculating God. Published by Tor in 2000, it was a finalist for the Best Novel Hugo in 2001, coming in second to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. (It was second on my ballot as well, but my first choice was Nalo Hopkinson's wonderful Midnight Robber.) It starts when an alien lands at the Royal Ontario Museum and asks to speak to a paleontologist . . .

Fair warning: Friends of mine, friends whose intelligence and taste I greatly respect, hated this book. It worked well for me, but won't for everyone.

I like Rob and have enjoyed his stuff. Will add this to the list of books to check out!

Con crud...the gift that keeps on giving. It's apparently a bad year for flu, so sadly a bad year for going to cons.

Said the woman who is going to one at the end of February...

Get better soon!
